Since they'll only be around for about 8-11 weeks is it possible that if I get straight run that the roos will be crowing? I'm not supposed to have roos and it's cheaper to go with straight run instead of pullets.

I raise them all the time. And generally, some of the roos start to attempt to crow - but it's that silly voice-breaking adolescent sounding crow that really isn't very loud. But that's generally very close to their processing date, but some of them will start to TRY to crow before their 8-10 weeks are up!

Hmmm, thanks. What is a roos weight close to processing date and what is a hens?

There is a subforum for this called "meat chickens" where you will find tons of threads (see the "sticky notes" threads) with all the information you'll need from purchase to processing.
