I always suspected this but just now tested it out. If you've got a viewing window, your heat will escape through it. I've got an 8X10 window with about an inch of each side taped and it's also caulked. I simply tacked a dish towel over the window and my temps went from a steady 102 and shot up to 104.7!! I always suspected that the window would be an issue as far as releasing heat but I didn't realize it would make that much of a difference! In hindsight, I would have used a much smaller piece of glass! Maybe a 3X5. Now I'm wondering how much of a temp swing I'll have and how long it will hold a steady temp since I've got it covered now. I'll keep those that are interested posted on the progress.

I may keep something over the window 24/7 and only lift the fabric when I want to check on things.

Update-okay...temp swings still seem to be about the same but I think with the towel over the viewing window, I would get more even temps throughout the incubator. I suspect that the temps closer to the window will be lower than the temps further away from the widow without the towel, iykwim.

i always put a big blanket over the bator and the temps shoot up.i knew alwas that the temp shot up. i learned from watching a video on youtube and making an asumption about what the guys did. Though he prolly didnt know it himself. If you want air to stop getting ouit, bust out the gluue guns and seelthat puppy !
