Would you say around a week after a pullet begins to squat she'll lay? My EE is 23 weeks old and I noticed she started to squat on Monday and has been quite nice and close to me. My cochin is 24 weeks old and no squatting yet but I know she still has a ways to go. Her comb and wattles are slowly growing.

Sounds to me like she might be getting ready. What I look for in a hen is red wattles and combs, and very strong interest in a nesting box, even though sometimes they like the floor better for their first eggs. I noticed my EE squat after she laid her first, so I guess it just kinda depends. Good luck!

I have a red sex link who squatted and then laid a few days later. It all certainly occurred within the same week. Keep an eye out for eggs!

She seemed to get her personality back when she was just a baby! Curious and affectionate. Her comb is quite big and red; I don't have a pic at the moment. I've seen her go into the coop throughout the week but I don't know what she does.
