We are getting 4 chicks
We need handy tips on keeping chicks and chickens
What size does a coop for four chickens need to be?
Thanks! :-D
P.S. we are getting 2 Rhode Island Reds and 2 Barred Rocks. Those are the types we are getting. All pullets.

At a min you want 2 sq ft of space per bird. If they are going to be caged and not free range then you want to make sure they have plenty of room so they are comfortable and happy. The happier and stress free a bird is the more eggs/better meat you will get.

Do some ALOT of reading here to learn, hopefully before you bring your pullets home, so you can have safe, adequate housing for them. Plan size of coop and run for full size birds, minimum of 4sq ft coop 10 sq ft run for each bird. The more room you can give them, the better everyone will fare.

And don't forget chicken math. Our first 4 are nearly 8 mo old. Our coop and run is based on 4 sq ft of house and 10 sq ft built on an existing concrete pad, it turned out to be sized for 7. Watching the girls I don't feel this is too much run and we'll probably get a few more. Also we took to heart making the run tall enough to stand up for cleaning. DH is 6'3" so our run is very tall.

The kids picked a dark purple. First they agreed on a color from all the chips at Homedepot, then we found oops paint and talked the guy into tinting it. We had to assure him that we'd take it even it it was mud brown. We love the color it came out. We got a 5 gal bucket of paint for about $20.
