How late is to late to get baby chicks in the year? Latest date the hatchery sells them is July 24. If I get them then. They would be in the brooder for 6 weeks

I know Cackle Hatchery and Hoover's Hatchery have later shipping dates. I only know this because I just received a shipment of chicks 2 weeks ago and I am going to be ordering more this week to be delivered next week.

Really depends on where you are and where you plan on buying them from. My local feed store does both spring chicks and a batch of fall chicks during September.

There is no wrong time as long as you are equipped to provide heat/shelter appropriate for the weather. Many folks prefer brooding in cooler fall/winter.
