Toe punching

I need a way to identify my ducks, I was thinking to toe punching in the web. The three newer ducks I was thinking of doing this with are about four months old and doing well. My questions are how old should the ducks be if I do this? Or should I do this? and can I use my one hole punch I use on paper if I clean it with alcohol?

There are all sizes, Colors and numbers of leg bands on amazon. Plus alot of TSC and farm stores sell them

You can cataloge the numbers and keep track of your animals, And save the torture and poasible infection of foot punching

If you are going to do it I would suggest getting a punch that was designed to punch toes.

I only have five ducks now, Silver Appleyards, the younger ones are starting to look like the adult hens. I was thinking about toe punch that in the long run I wouldn't have to worry about changing the bands. I was reading Dave Holderread's book and that was one suggestion. What size bands should I purchase if I decide to go that way?

With only five I think I would use colored zip ties.

I wouldn't think a regular paper punch would be sharp enough. If this is the route you choose to go, I would definitely purchase one designed for poultry use. There are many on Amazon if your ranch store does not stock them.

Paper punches pinch and Shear the hole and a punch punches the hole without pinching and tearing

I just purchased some numbered leg bands from Amazon. Appreciate you input. Has anyone had problems with the leg bands. I ordered 5/8 - 3/4 bands.
