Toes falling off a week old chick

Hello. A week ago I bought some baby chicks.. I noticed yesterday that 1 of them is missing all of the toes on one leg and 1 of the toes on the other. Has anyone else had this experience? If so, do you know what causes it?? All the other chickies are just fine.

Is there an obvious injury, or could it possibly be a hatching deformity? Is it being pecked by the other chicks?

I had a chick with one missing toe. She had been born with all her toes.
I had put hen and chicks in a raised hutch with a wire bottom. The adult birds hung out under the cage and when chicks came out they would Peck at the little toes that came through the hardware cloth. I happened to be standing there when she had her toe bitten off so I could see my error.
I still put hen and chicks in the hutch but have a thick layer of fresh grass or straw over the HC.
Poor baby! I hope you figure this out.
