Toms or hens?

until this morning I was under the impression they were hens but now I’m not so sure.

Im new to turkeys by the way

I have hens that fan when they are mad..... also have hens with beards

Ive had them with beards but never fanning their tails. Good to know!

How old are they?

The snoods on both are rather small although the caruncles on the one on the right are big. If the one on the right is under 6 months old, I would guess a tom.

If they are older, I have had hens with bigger snoods that displayed and strutted just like a tom.

A mature tom would have a snood that will cover his bill and extend 3" to 4" below it.

If they are a year old, they are most likely hens and should lay eggs in the spring.
