Any help is appreciated. 8 week old chick got ahold of some string from a feed bag. Injury happened sometime between last night and this morning, came out to coop and she was hiding-noted string around tongue. I was able to remove string but her tongue is pretty dead with an odd smell. Middle to tip of tongue is ready to fall off. I flushed out her mouth with dilute chlorhexadine solution and was able to syringe feed a critical care mix and water. My concern is obviously for infection - should I pick up antibiotics or wait it out? She's been brought inside and her attitude is bright and alert. Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

Oh, that is sad, but it seems to happen fairly often. Go to the to of the page and type "string around tongue" in the search box, and you can read several other threads about this. Let us know how she gets along.
