Hi, Does the cold weather slow down egg laying? I was getting 6 eggs a day, but now I'm only getting 2-3. Also, the guineas I guess are hiding theirs, I haven't seen one in about 3 months. Carol
At this time of year (shorter days less sunlight) production does slow down and often completely stops. The hens are refueling and their bodies are resting in order to lay and hatch those lovely spring chicks. Molting will also cause them to stop producing as well.
Not sure. I have 4 banty hens and I havn't seen an egg in 3 weeks. I was getting 1 - 3 eggs a day. I have 12 buff hens and was getting an average of 11 eggs a day. Now I get an average of 9 a day. I do have a light in the coop that is on a timer.
