Transporting chickens

Im picking up 10 birds tomorrow. What's the best way to transport them? In a cage or in boxes? How much space would they need?

close enough to full grown for sure yes small boxes could be useful but will stress the birds more and a box big enough for ten birds is larger than a box a fridge would come in. ideally you would be able to fabricate a flat transport crate in a truck bed, but in a pinch i've used large UPS boxes 12x12x12" for transport. one square foot being the smallest ever used. good luck with your girls!

I moved my first 10 birds in a 42"L x 28"W x 30"H wire dog crate in the back of mini van. Was only a 45 minute drive. Worked great.

Anything they can't get out of works ...Shavings in the bottom so they are not covered in poop once home...
