For those of you that breed true Ameraucana's standard size I am looking for either 2 young pullets or 2 hens that are laying eggs. I'd like to get ones that lay the blue/green eggs. I know there are ones that can lay brown eggs. I don't want brown eggs. I am located in California, so if you are willing to ship I'd like to get 2. If shipping is to expensive for pullets or hens I would be willing to take 2 baby chicks, but must be guaranteed that they are females and will lay the colored eggs. I don't have the ability to hatch out eggs (no incubator), but do have hens that will go broody on me, but don't have lights that I could put on them after they've hatched out. If anyone knows a breeder in California that would be even better.

Thanks

You are probably going to find it very difficult to find anyone willing to ship adult birds. And a lot of breeders don't even sell Day Old chicks.
You might have to buy eggs and hatch them yourself.......

Good luck

Just thought I would put it out there in case anyone was willing to ship adult birds. I know it can be expensive so I may have to go w/ chicks. If there are any breeders willing to ship chicks that would be great. In my original post I forgot to put what color I'd like. Right now I have a lot of brown and red birds. I'd really like a diversity of color. So if you have whites, blue, or blue wheatens those are the colors I'd really like to get.

Just wanted to clarify about eggs on pure bred ameraucana. There shouldn't be any brown egg laying standard ameraucana. If you know of some, then they are not standard pure bred ameraucana - they are easter eggers, which are ameraucana crosses. The egg color for ameraucana should be blue and only blue, however there are some breeders having difficulty with that so occasional blue green and green is acceptable but should be worked on to improve the breed.

Some breeders will ship started birds (instead of adults)...doesn't hurt to ask. Good luck in your search.

Hi there, sorry I didn't get to meet you at the Stockton show. You could probably find a few pullets or hens by posting on CA Chickens. It is a Yahoo group--very friendly to newcomers. It could be that someone is just a short drive away.

Lisa Cree will ship live birds from Seabeck, WA. She raises blue, black, and splash Ameraucanas.

I will post a couple of links for you...

http://www.ameraucana.org/

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/CaliforniaChickens/

http://groups.msn.com/ABCshareingplace/breederlist.msnw

The last link, is a list of Ameraucana breeders. I am not sure how up to date it is, but it should head you in the right direction.
