Hello. One of my Rhode Island Reds has what seems to be a tumor a little bigger than a golfball on her chest. Any ideas? What it may be? What I should do?

Are you sure it is not her crop? The thing on her chest, often to the left, which holds food.

Crop, gotta be the crop. The first time I felt a swollen crop, I thought "Omg, my B has a tumor". Now I know it's just a full crop. Check her there somtime when you know she hasn't eaten for a while just to be sure. Good Luck! [IMG]

    Crop. Crop. Crop.

It is a pocket like organ that stores food. They can run out and gobble up a lot of food then run and hide under cover to digest it later.

Nature makes everything for a reason. Isn't it wonderful?

Phew!!! And here I too thought my little Betty (red cochin) was on her last legs - huge lump, off-center on her chest. Meantime, she's lively, alert, laying eggs like clockwork .. I was so confused, and so worried, and now realize that I've just got a hoarder!!![IMG]

    You guys are GREAT!!
