Hello everyone! I am having a difficult time trying to find a normal anatomy of the inside of a turkeys mouth. I have been researching but on the inside of my turkey’s (Mario) mouth where the glottis is supposed to open and close to help them breathe, Mario’s glottis is constantly open and doesn’t close. He seems to struggle a little with breathing (which is why I researched about this) I don’t know what may be causing that but that was the most noticeable thing when I opened his mouth. Also, he is not an open mouth breather but when he breathes through his nose his entire face sinks in (especially around his nasal cavities). When he breathes out, he is breathing out of his EYES!!! I never heard of such! After much research, I learned that the nasal and eye cavity are connected. The downside is I don’t know how to help him. His nose seems to be swollen a little and he sometimes has bubbles come out of his eyes, but besides that he is in very good physical condition. (He is a bit on the chunky side, but don’t tell him I said that! Haha!) I took a video of the inside of his mouth to demonstrate. It won’t let me post videos so I screenshot as many points of interest as I could.

Also, I have another turkey and his name is Luigi. When i was looking in his mouth, he had a GREEN tongue! I also tried to find such a thing but nothing was helpful. I also am going to tag a picture of that as well.

Sorry for the long post! The first 3 pictures are of Mario. The last two are of Luigi!

Check Luigi's throat. Compare to Mario's. I am not familiar with a turkey's throat, but chickens don't have those fleshy cone shaped things behind the tongue. If your other turkeys have those, then they are normal. If your other turkey doesn't have those, and these appear to be blocking the airway, then they're likely tumors and are what's causing his breathing difficulties. A vet might be able to surgically remove them if you determine they don't belong.

By the way, making two threads on the same subject just confuses everyone, and you're less likely to get responses than when you have one thread with all the info and comments in one place.
