Turning heat lamp down?

Hey guys, I was just wondering when you should turn the heat lamp down? I rigged mine through a dimmer switch (clever I know

) so that I can adjust the heat as I need. Is just a case of easing them off the heat gradually day by day? When I bought my first two ducks they were 9 days old and didnt need any heat at all! Any advice would be great! Thank you!

What temperature do you have it at right now?

Right now its about 96 F and they dont seem to be huddling underneath it.

First week of life it should be 90*F, and lower it 5* each week. Smart idea with the dimmer switch! By 4 weeks they shouldn't need it anymore!

Thats brilliant thank you! Any ideas how my first set of ducks were ok after 9 days? I bought them at 9 days old and as i was new to ducks I didnt realise they needed it. but they were fine without it. They were inside though so I guess that helped! Many thanks again, im really loving my new babies!!!!

i just got 40 more ducks yesterday and i didn't light the bulb up anymore. i think it is warm enough now and they look very good.
