[IMG] After taking back the neighborhood sled dogs to the owner several times, two of his sled dogs were let out for 24 + hours to wander the neighborhood and they waited until there was a torrential downpour and got through the electric fencing and chain link fencing and killed 77 of our 78 meat birds and tore the wing off of one turkey and head off another. This all took place at 4:00 am in the pouring rain and in another minute they would have been into the turkeys because they tore the staples out of the wire and ripped the wire fencing. I shot one of the dogs and the RCMP came out and did a police report and the dog owner came to collect his dead dog and I gave him a bill for $2600.00 for the 475 lbs of dead birds at $5.50 per pound. We had most of the birds pre-sold and we were ready to process them that coming week. All the meat went to one of the local dog mushers and that's such a waste. To say the least...we're not enjoying farming this year:(

Ah no, I am so sorry. Glad you all found a use for the meat though, and that compensation of the monetary kind seems like it will be coming. But any way you cut it, that just is depressing.

I am so sorry. I despise irresponsible dog owners. I hope you get reimbursed without having to sue the fool.

I am SO sorry for your loss. What a shame too! Really is sad as I love huskies but they do have a high prey drive and many people just do not understand that, what a shame the owner was such a bone head!!

Will you be able to sell(or give away) the meat birds now,or are you burying them? I think I would have made the dog owner deal with it.Hope you get the money.

That is awful. Why are people so stupid sometimes? Maybe hitting them in the wallet will make them keep their dogs on their own property from now on. But what a terrible thing to find. I lost my little SLW last week to the husky mix accross the alley. It was my fault for not clipping her wings, and I happened to look out just as she jumped INTO their yard. It was a horrific thing to watch that dog grab her, but in a way it was also kind of impressive. So fast - and powerful. I love huskies, but as someone else mentioned, they have a serious prey drive.
