Hi, I have two questions about molting.
    1. Is it too late in the season for chickens to just now start to molt? I got 2 RIR's Friday and they looked alright, but now today they are showing signs of starting to molt.
    2. Do chickens lay while molting or do they wait until they are through molting?

    Thanks

Usually chickens molt in the spring or fall but some will molt in the winter. Mine did. And no they don't lay while molting because their feathers are 85% protein and they cant put their protein towards both eggs and feathers.

[IMG] Three out of the four chickens in my flock have molted. One died in the process (she broke her neck. :( ) but Bisquick just started molting and Snappers is almost done!!!!
