Recently I purchased a beautiful breeding pair of crele oegb. Decided to hatch some eggs from the pair...let them bake at 99.5 for 21 days..saw a pip got super excited! And out popped a blonde chick? Ive had baby creles before, and they always have been chipmunk like. I usually mark each egg in pencil as i retrieve them from the nest as well. So how the heck did i get blonde from a crele to crele mating?

  2. Hi! Do you have any pics? Just a guess, but maybe your OEGB are not true Crele? Maybe barred wheaten or ??
Check the pics and info here and see what you think:
    Thought it was a Crele.

There is a good possibility that they are Wheaten based.

If I was you what I would do is,

Put your Crele Rooster in a breeding pen with a Black Breasted Red Hen.
And put a Black Breasted Red Rooster over you Crele Hen.

That would darken and clean up your birds a lot...

Quote:So what color chicks would result from a breeding of a crele to a bb red? (Im rather new to this, and was very excited to finally find a crele rooster to upgrade from), But now Im finding my heart feels like its been sinking, because Ive gotten non-crele babies. What will these blonde babies look like when they get older if they are wheaten? Will they be barred similiar to a crele?

I found this very interesting "'crele' is black-breasted red with the barring gene"
