This particular situation is working itself out. I called DH at work to tell him what SD's demands were and he said they could stick it. A few of the rookie officers with DH today overheard the conversation and have offered to come help him on Friday. One has a bobcat with the backhoe attachment. I think the plan is to abandon the old line and dig a ditch for a new one.

I am disabled but even so, five years ago or even a year ago I would have taken the job on and probably would have had the ditch dug by the time DH got home. However I was hit with a double whammy in the health dept. recently. Technically I'm not even supposed to be out taking care of my chickens. The main reason DH can't just take a day or two off to do it is because he is taking Monday off to take me to a specialist in Ft. Smith, AR.

As for those girls ~ they are toxic and creating more stress than you need ~ sounds like it is time for DH to set new ground rules for them.

Of course she isn't grateful. She doesn't feel she has anything to be grateful for. In her mind anything she receives from you is simply her just due. I think the best way to deal with her is to be sweet, noncommital, agree with her heartily and DON'T GIVE HER ANYTHING!! Including meals.

And you should print out a list of all of what you have spent since she was an "adult" as in she chose the path in life she was going to follow. Just so she can see how much she has already taken.

Who needs family if you got friends like that? So nice of them to offer to come help. I noticed you didn't have to ask, they offered. And they are not asking for anything in return. So there you go, dump the family and surround yourself with friends!

Grit, I know how you feel! I'm the witch to my step kids. Never did anything wrong to them, but earned the name through their mother and they went with it. Funny, how we are the witches, but when they need something, it all changes. Back stabbing, ungrateful little brats!
