Unifour All Breed Poultry Show(Salisbury, NC)

    Saturday March 7, 2009

    Rowan County Fairgrounds
    1500 Julian Rd
    Salisbury, NC 28146

The Show Contact for entering birds in the show is:

**This is one of the largest shows in NC. There will be lots of bantams and some standards. Be sure to walk to the barn behind the show hall to see the large ducks, turkeys, Geese, and guineas.

The sales area here is the largest in NC with a wide selection of breeds. Should be lots of chickens, pigeons, some ducks, and cage birds.

Be sure to visit the consession stand to help support the hosting club. There is normally a raffle for some very nice prizes.

Do you know about any of the people coming to the show? (I'm looking for a well known lady from somewhere up north that will be bringing Silkies down for the show.) [IMG]

Oh my! I'm so excited. I've never been to a poultry show, and this one's right up the street!

What time does it start? Do you know if there is any cost for admission?

Exhibitors need to have all birds entered in the show couped in and ready by 9 am. That is when the judging starts. As a breed or row is being judged it will be roped off. Please enjoy the rest of the rows of birds, that row will be open again as soon as the Judges are done. Carolina shows are very laid back and the folks you will meet will be very friendly. If you ask a question, most will talk your ear off. At least I do.

Sellers normally start setting up around 7:30 and continue to filter in till about 9. By then most sellers are setup and making deals. I like to get there before or as folks are setting up get the best deals. If you see someone unloading, don't be afraid to ask what they have. I can't tell you how many times I go to sales and sell most before I even get setup.

Admission is FREE. You can look all you want and for as long as you want. Please, don't drool on the birds. [IMG] I carry a napkin in my pocket for this.

Unless you have extremely strong will power, BRING MONEY. Everyone sees something there they just have to have. [IMG]

Please visit the consession stand to help support the hosting club. They need the $$$ to keep running these shows. The food is good and at fair prices.

Free? I love free! I might be heading for divorce before we even get married! I might end up doubling my little flock.

What time do they typically stay until? I have to work till 12 on that day I don't want to miss it all!

Quote:The show doesn't start winding down till after 1. The raffles and give aways are normally at 1 pm. Then folks slowly start removing birds that have already been judged and are eliminated. The Judging will run till 2-3pm. Then the birds really start to leave as the overall winner is chosen and all the top birds are photographed for the Poultry Press.

The sells seem to start winding down by 11am, but there are still some deals being made up till the end. Especially at the end(1-3pm) when folks that didn't sell well just don't want to take so many birds back home. That is when the prices on some start going WAY down.

    Hi Matt,
I've been trying to contact them for a show catalog, this is my first show and i was wondering if there is any way i can drop my chickens off the night before. Also, do they provide the cooping?
Since i can't get a response from the show secretary, how should i go about entering my birds? And last question, do they require any vaccinations on the birds or will they be offered like at some shows, because my birds have not had any to my knowledge.
    Thanks!

Quote:The show building will be open for check in on Friday from Noon to 9 pm. On saturday it opens at 6 am. There will be coups for birds entered. All birds in the show have to be ready and couped in by 9 am on saturday morning. Someone needs to be there on Saturday to feed and water birds. This is the responsibility of the exhibitor. The show should end around 2 or 3. At that point someday needs to be there to get the birds. If not, it is untelling who may take them. They will not just be left there to be picked up whenever.

No vaccines are required. Any birds that appear unhealthy will not be allowed in the building. Any bird not part of the NPIP program will be blood tested at the door. A state vet will be present during check-in for this. They poke a wing vein for a drop of blood and then put a leg band on the bird. Costs $1 for 1 to 10 birds, then $.10 for each bird after that.

This late, the only way to register is by call in. 6pm-9pm tomorrow is your last chance. If no answer, just keep trying, he may be on the line entering someone else.

Thanks Matt, I really appreciate the info. I found out later last night that he hasn't been getting my emails. Yahoo sent me one big reply that said all of them where a failure to deliver. So I will call him for sure tonight, I'm very excited about this!
