We are not totally new to chickens but I am new to chicks. I have 16 on the way the week Of April 9th. One Golden Polish (Male) , 4 whiting true blue, 4 whiting true greens, 3 buff orphingtons, 3 New Hampshire reds, and one odd one.

I found you all while researching options for a brooder with no lamp and discovered the heating pad method. I’m leaning towards that. (I’d love detailed instructions)

I have 3 kiddos. 14, 9, and 12.

We lost most of our flock to Marek’s last year and the remaining hens ended up in the neighbors coop. (They had the plague too) so we are starting over with vaccinated chicks and hoping for the best.

Glad you're here !

A must have for your poultry is a FIRST AID KIT for any issues that would arise. (https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/suggestions-for-a-first-aid-kit.1150128/)
It's definitely better to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it.

Also, make sure your coop(s) have a proper amount of VENTILATION. (https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...-there-and-cut-more-holes-in-your-coop.47774/) Your chickens will absolutely thank you for it!

One last thing, if you're into gardening, feel free to join this years SEED SWAP (https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/seed-swap.1220129/)

Thanks. The list of first aid supplies was overwhelming. I was going to have chick electrolytes ready to go when they arrive. That was it. There’s a tractor supply 10 minutes from my house.

Welcome I am new here also and sorry to hear about your flock. Wishing you better luck this time with vaccinated birds. We had ours vaccinated and have only lost one and she was 4 months when she died. She was good one day and gone the next, and let me tell you it prompted some serious worry right off, but the rest of the flock is doing great.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.
