So we left for about 6 hours and I came home to find the incubator had been unplugged. These eggs are due to hatch next weekend. Temp was 78' what do I do? Would it have killed them?

Just plug it back in and hope for the best. Even broody hens will come off the nest for what seems to be an inordinate length of time and the hatches can be successful.

That's all you can do. Start it up. Hope for the best. There are lots of reports of success under these circumstances.

it may have killed them but i would leave 'em in until day 18 before lockdown. think about it this way. why about when a broody hen get up for water in cold weather. Better too cold than too hot but i still can't give you any guarantees. no harm no foul

They may be just fine. Maybe late. Plug them in and you should be good to go! Just monitor for a few hours to make sure that the temperature stabilizes and doesn't spike.
