I agree, they're partridge Rocks. The pattern you're seeing isn't really barring, it's just a stage the juveniles go through before they grow adult plumage. They'll be beautiful birds in a few months! I'm so excited, I'm finally getting some this year....talk about eye candy!
 
Is there a difference in temperament and the number of eggs you can expect between partridge and barred rocks? Also is it true Plymouth Rock roosters don't grow spurs?
 
I've only had barred Rocks so far. My understanding is temperament is pretty much the same. One hatchery says the partridge don't lay quite as well as the barreds, but they should still be great layers...I'm thinking a difference of an egg a week or so?

Rock roosters do indeed get spurs. Some roosters don't get them until they're over a year old, some hens grow impressive spurs.
