Unusal Hybrid

    Just bought the last 4 "point of lay hens" at a market so had no choice of colour or breed. Who do you think the parents of this strange chickens are? She is approximately 18 weeks old. She is almost totally black on her right side with a few irridescent green feathers but light grey on the left. Will she always be this colour or will her plumage change as she gets older?

    The legs look white. Two breeds off the top of my head have that are Marans and Orpington, ok Astralorp is three. She doesn't have the characteristic fluff of an Orpington so leaning toward Marans and/or Australorp in her parentage. It's a very odd coloration that doesn't seem possible with a cross. I'd assume it's a barnyard mix of many generations. When she lays her first egg you'll know she has significant Marans in her if it's a dark egg.
