Found this fellow inside our chicken run yesterday morning. He had eaten a couple of hens. Not sure how he got in since the coup and run is closed at night, The doors are open in the daytime for the 25 hens to run around so he must have come in then.(I thought these with nocturnal) We managed to get him out out with any harm (I suppose these are a protected species) First predator we have had in 10 years.

I had one of those stalking my chickens in the spring. He got caught up in my neighbors baseball netting and I had to call Wildlife services to come and free him.

I have a hen recovering from an attack by a barred owl. It had her pinned to the ground while he was eating all her back and neck muscles.
Did this owl carry the birds away or did it kill them in the pen?
Beautiful bird, but I'm sorry about the ones you lost.

It killed them in the pen, the week before it got one in the barn yard. When the Owl flew out of the pen about 40-50 crows came out of the neighbors trees and attacked it in the air and again in the trees.. Not sure if the owl survived or not.
