MY HEN IS WORSE. SHE IS NOW HAVING A DISCHARGE FROM HER BEAK; I CAN SEE LIQUID BUBBLING THROUGH HER NOSTRILS. I TOOK HER TEMP; ITS 106. AM STILL TREATING DAILY W/ VETERICYN GEL ON THE CLOUDY (AND NOW CRUSTY) EYE. GIVING HER OXYTETRACYCLINE HCI AND AN ELECTROLYTE IN HER WATER. SCRAMBLED EGGS W/ OLIVE OIL AND YOGURT ONCE DAILY IN ADDITION TO HER FEED. ALSO, HER DROPPINGS HAVE CHANGED TO LOOSE GREEN AND EVEN BLACK. CAN ANYONE TELL ME THEIR OPINIONS ON WHAT THIS MIGHT BE AND AM I DOING THE RIGHT THING? SHOULD I BE DOING SOMETHING ELSE? IS SHE PROBABLY GOING TO DIE DISPITE ALL MY EFFORTS? ALSO, AM I AT RISK OF CONTAMINATING MY OTHER HENS BY ENTERING BOTH PENS IN THE SAME SHOES, ETC.? THANKS SO MUCH FOR ANY AND ALL INPUT.

I don't know what is wrong with your hen but yes, if you are treating/handling her and then going into another pen in the same clothing you are easily able to spread this if it is something contagious. Many respiratory diseases are airborne but they can also travel on your clothing/shoes, hands even your hair. It's always best to care for a sick bird last and go into the other pens after showering and changing clothes.

THANKS CAFARMGIRL. I WILL REMEMBER TO CARE FOR THE SICKIE AFTER I TEND TO THE HEALTHY GIRLS. I'M NEW HERE SO I HAVEN'T TAKEN THE TIME TO INPUT MY PERSONAL STUFF YET; STILL IN PANIC AND SEARCH MODE, BUT I ALSO AM IN THE CENTRAL VALLEY. HOW BIG IS YOUR FLOCK AND HAVE YOU HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH ILLNESSES?
