I finally have some new pics, and just had to share. They have grown SO much, and not even 2 months old yet! I can't believe it ... they used to all sleep in a single cardboard box, and now I have 3 large rubbermaid totes with pine shavings lined up in the lower room to put them in at night.

I'm going to work on their night shelter today ... I hope this tiny drill I have will do the job!

Here's one of the dark ones, all fluffed out. I'm thinking these are probably Africans?

And here's the white one. Still not sure ... these days he looks more like an Embden than a Chinese to me? I'm certainly NO expert though!

And here are my feathered lawnmowers ... doing what gooses do! I love this ...

They will only take starter a couple times a day. I feed them in the morning, and the 3 of them together won't eat an 8-ounce cup. Most of it is left in the bowl and gets eaten by the chickens. Before bed at night, though, they may want about 12 - 14 ounces between the three of them.

And this is my sweet(est) one. They are all pretty sweet. This one comes up to us, her neck trembling, and she just cries for us to bend down. She LOVES to chew on our hair. It's like a comfort to her, I think, and she will come in and wrap her neck around our necks. She is sooooo sweet !!!

    I love these guys!

I still want to think about raising some for meat some day, but there is NO way I can eat these. It would be like eating the family dog or something. They have become pets too quickly.

I think it's like that calf I'd like to raise. I need a big pen somewhere far away from the house, where I can just visit and service them, and just watch from a distance as a bunch of identical babies grow up. Then I MIGHT be able to eat them.

I don't get it ... I grew up part-time on a farm and we ate our own chickens and rabbits all the time.

The geese (gooses! [IMG]) are beautiful. So is your daughter...
It will be interesting to see how their personalities change/develop as they grow older.

They are very cute. Is there a trick to keeping them sweet? I have 3 goslings and right now at 2 weeks old they are very friendly, I want them to stay that way, any suggestions?[IMG]

WHat great pics! Of all the different geese I have raised, Africans were the most loving. I think your white one is a Chinese (it seems I can see a faint knob starting to develop).

Thanks for the lovely pics.... [IMG]
  8. They are so cute. It looks like you have Brown Africans and a White Chinese. I love Africans. They are very cute.

How sweet! My kids want me to hatch some geese, but I haven't been brave enough yet. Maybe someday! They are gorgeous! [IMG]
