    DOUGNASH Out Of The Brooder

    Hi Folks

I have wanted to keep a few chickens for a while now, and I finally settled in a bit in my new (to me) home

She is an oldie, built in 1896

I am a salesman and I never built anything and I got no skills, so we will see how this turns out

All I know is I am 6'1", I bang my head all the time when I work on my boat, I don't want that to happen with my coop, so this thing is gonna be TALL

I have no plans, I am designing this build off the following coops I found here

    I like this one too

And I really like this one

    The gringo!

Notice the ramps and platform, this will be a big part in my design

This is my skinny backyard and this is where the coop is going

Notice how small the canna lillies are on the left

    I leveled all the blocks

It looks like this will be 16 feet long and abut 5 feet wide

The floor of the run will be filled with sand, but I put in a bunch of top soil in before to bring the level up.

I just placed the frame on the stone to size it up

The entire frame will be screwed together with deck screws

Nice going! This would be a good time to stake down a sheet of 1/2" hardware cloth on the bottom to cover the footprint to save you some perimeter digging later.

    1 coat of primer

2 coats of semi-gloss exterior white

    This took awhile

    OK lets stop messing around

    This is the basic frame

At this point there is 1/2" hardware cloth screwed to the bottom of the frame already

I want to have a pretty big overhang and roof

    The coop and run dimensions are 16ft x 5ft x 7ft

The roof dimensions will be 20ft x 10ft

So I wont get wet when it rains when I walk around the coop

sorry, pics are a little dark
