I have a 12 week old Black Jersey Giant (giant is right!) who looks suspiciously like a roo; lovely long tail feathers growing and a luxurious silky neck, but I live in an area where I can't keep roosters.
10 years ago I ended up with a gorgeous Polish Crested roo, and my neighbors loved him. Too keep the peace, I brought him in every night around 8 put him in a dog kennel and covered him with a blanket. I put him back out after 8am with the hens and had no trouble. Unfortunately he was a mean little sucker and after he jumped the fence and attacked the mailman, he went to live on 2 acres in a rural area.
My question is, will sleeping indoors away from the hens cause a rooster or the hens stress? I really want everyone to be happy, including my daughter and I who just adore "Blanca". "She's" so sweet and cuddly.
