hi all,
i need immediate help right now. my hen hasn’t been feeling well since last week. she was lethargic, had a loss of appetite, had a floppy comb, and was losing weight. we thought it was coccidiosis and gave her treatment, yet she wasn’t getting better. today i discovered her and thought she was dead. she wasn’t responding to me or opening her eyes. she was still breathing though. she was just hunched up in a ball and had her eyes closed, almost dead. her comb is becoming discolored.i know she’ll probably die, but i need to know what she has. if it’s something like mereks i have to know so she won’t infect my other chickens. or maybe it’s calcium or vitamin b deficiency? what should i do???? HELP

How old is she - has she been laying ? It almost sounds like a respiratory or heart situation. If it is Marek's your flock has already been exposed. If she dies I would suggest having a necropsy done so that the cause can be determined.

I'm so sorry. Check your coop for red mites tonight. Look under the roosts. If she is still with you, keep her inside and warm tonight. She will need emergency care at a vet, given the state she is in. A normal vet may not be able to help her, but can possibly give her fluids to keep her going until you can get her to a specialist or university emergency vet. Best wishes and keep us posted.

My hen had similar symptoms. After she passed, I sent her for a necropsy, and it turned out she had a terrible infection of her reproductive system that had been raging for months. Broke my heart. If it's something like what my poor Magnolia had, then at least you know it isn't contagious.

I am so sorry your hen is sick....
😢
