I have the opportunity to buy a used Little Giant forced air incibator from a woman who's had it for six months and has used it that whole time.

Is that a lot of use? She's selling because her DH built her a mini-fridge incubator.

It's a good price, I just want to make sure I'm not getting something that will wear out soon. I have NO idea about incubators.

What should I look for/at when buying a used incubator?

Thanks.

I personally despise Little Giant bators. The temp adjustment knob is way to sensitive for me. Many have had wonderful success with it. I ran one side by side with a Hovabator still air. The LG temp spiked over night and toasted 38 eggs. I had another 100% hatch with the Hovabator. Just do your homework about the LG and check out the other threads on here about it.

Is it the LG forced air fan or a computer fan? Doesn't matter much but price and the computer fan can be undersized or installed backwards. Other than that they don't burn out from use, it's a 40 watt heating coil that regulates via a thermastat. Hatchaholics use them for years without issue.

There is a reason her DH built her a different one, I had one & I wouldnt have another one if it was give to me, I have friends who swears by them & thats all good but there is good & bad of everything, I dont trust them, homemade is the way to go.

I have a question like this one..my friend has a GQF sportsman ...i'm not sure how old but he says it works fine...what would be a fair price for it...and what would you check on it before buying? thanks for any help or suggestions.

The GQF have been really good to me.I bought 3 used ones.2 had auto turners and one was just for hatching.Initially both the ones I used for incubating had wafer thermostats and the wafers (I've heard) alwaysgo out.Only one has gone out on me so far and it was on the really older 1202 type model.I simply converted it to a digital thermostat and she has run like a dream since. So far no problems with the other two and I've even used the hatcher as an incubator when I had large orders of Coturnix Quail. I would def buy a GQF before a LG anyday. I've never had good luck with LG.
