I have 4 chickens, ages 28-30 weeks, and only one is laying. Now she seems like she is kinda broody? She was sitting in her nest box all day Thursday and would puff up her feathers and shriek if we approached her. She did lay an egg that day though. We removed her from her next box a couple of times and made sure she ate and drank some. However, she didn't lay Friday or today even though she isn't spending much time in the nest boxes. Could she just be taking a break or slowing a bit because of the shorter days? She's consistently been a six a week egg layer, and this week she laid four.
Now, the other 3 lazy girls haven't even layed their first eggs yet!!! A BO, a Wyandotte and an EE. Seems like they are pretty late compared to what ages most people say their chickens started laying. Anyway, I used the last egg today and I'm thinking I'll have to go out and buy some this week...bummer.
