I've found I can get diatomaceous earth around here but it's pool grade for swimming pool filters. According to one page I found, it won't kill bugs because it's been heat-treated (calcined) to form larger clumps, so it's not small enough to kill the bugs.

Anyone using it?

If it's not the right stuff, does anyone know any good sources of food grade D.E.? Because the stuff is very hard to find where I am.

I don't know about local places by you, but we've had great luck just finding it at our local feed store. Do you have any Tractor Supply Companies or farm feed stores anywhere in your area or nearby more rural areas? I would think they'd have it. We LOVE that stuff! We've used it against fleas, ticks, and all kinds of nasty pests. Good luck!

My TSC doesn't have it. I asked.

I don't think this stuff is poisonous, there's no way it'd be allowed around swimming pools if it were. But it may be ineffective since it's mostly not fine enough. My main question is whether it works "well enough" to use until we get our hands on some food grade stuff.

where are you at? check out health food stores. Ours carries it but its more expensive than at a feed store. DONT use the pool stuff it is poison

It's not "poisonous", but it's extremely BAD to breath it.

It's "safe" around pools because it is inside the filters and stays WET.
