Regarding flock block. I have had just a couple. Three I think in the last two seasons...I have found that if I can stab it with something and get some picked off in an area, , they are curious and can't leave it alone. The juvie pen especially seems to be interested---the reason I have bought them for the big girls is to distract them when I am integrating newbies so the newbies do not get harassed so much, it definitely helps. I also have sprinkled scratch on and around it to get them interested.

My naughty chicken eating dog got a new home today. He got in trouble after digging out of our yard and terrorizing the neighbors sheep...It was really really sad. Yes I am thrilled my chickens will not be under attack any more, but very sad seeing the dog we have had for 8 years go, watching my son and husband say goodbye to him was heart wrenching to say the least. Also he was really good at chasing predators off and killing a few random critters when they would come around. And protecting our house from strangers. It is a half empty/half full thing. So sad though. No more ranting from me on here about naughty dog attacks, that will be a good thing.
 
Lisa, very sorry that you had to rehome the dog, though I admit I'm relieved you don't have to worry about him getting your chickens anymore. Still, I am sorry you had to give away a pet. That's hard. Hugs to you and yours! Here is hoping for brighter and better days, right?
 
rj i am glad you could get some boss :) we will see about the rabbits. interesting to see if the vinegar works on your wart. i hear duck tape works on warts too. me i just get some dry ice and burn any warts off tho holding a can of air duster upside down can do the same thing. as for flock blocks i have got some in the past and too had to open them up a bit so they can see whats inside. i stopped feeding them tho because they are easy for mice to get to and plus my girls just do not like them much
 
Ugh rehoming a dog is tough I am sure. I have one that I am sure would eat the chickens if she could and it is a source of stress for me to make sure that she is always separated from them since I like them to get free range time when we can. We hang a "chickens roaming" sign on the slider so that people dont let the 2 predator dogs out accidently. Once they start digging under fences it is quite the ordeal to get them to stop, that is how one of our old dogs hurt his back and had lifelong nerve damage from it.

RJ- I made home made flock block last year and the chickens loved it. It was more crumbly than the store bought version (I'm assuming I haven't actually bought one). It was also November when I gave it to them and I think the lack of good stuff in the yard increased their enthusiasm.

Lisa- sorry to hear about your dog.
 
Thanks guys for the kind words about the dog. It's been really hard :/. And yes, newmarch--once the digging started, it has been so hard to keep him in the yard, we have boards and cinder blocks all along the fence line, it will be nice to not have to deal with that either anymore.

On a brighter note--My girls get to free range around the grass today, they are going to be sooooooo happy :D
