Vacation Chicks...

If my broody hatch goes well (my first hatch!), I'll have baby chicks around the 17th of June. Unfortunately I go away for a week on vacation a week later. I'm trying to find someone who can come by my place and check on the babies/their mother daily; if not, I'll put the babies in a brooder and take them to a friend's place to stay for the week. BUT...will I be able to reintegrate them with their mother when I get back? Or is a week too long for them to be apart? I hate to end up having to brooder-raise them! Any thoughts? Anyone ever tried this?

Do not separate the hen and her chicks. The hen and chicks will freak out.

If you make sure they have enough food and water to last a week they'll be fine

Thanks! I don't want to split them up, but whew, a week seems like a long time-- I'll try to get a chicken sitter to swing by instead then. Fingers crossed I can find someone.
