vaccination

    i have a pair of turkey ,and some chickens with chick. i keep them on my roof so i have to some of confine them se that they don't mess things up. recently i have a batch of chicken around 50 . so what i want to ask is are there any vaccinations that are mandatory for the chicks i am attchig pics so do tell me if i am not screwing anything that matters?[​IMG]

    I'm not certain but I believe the Mareks shot has to be given at 1-2 days of age. It doesn't prevent it but, may result in milder cases. Survivors are Mareks are carriers all their life.

    Welcome to BYC! Glad you joined the flock! Vaccines aren't required, but when shipping across the United States you have to be NPIP Certified. You test a certain percentage of your birds and if you test negative you have a clean flock and become certified. I think they test for 6 diseases. I would make sure you have a wormer, chemical or natural, because chickens can sometimes pass blackhead to turkeys. Turkeys are not a resistant as chickens.

    The Marek's vaccine helps prevent. It's like brucellosis in cattle. They can be exposed to it but if exposed to so much of it they will get it. I'm not sure why you would want to keep a survivor since they can spread it and the symptoms are nasty in my opinion.
