i candelled my 3 of my 8 eggs today and they all had veins!!! yay!!!
test egg and 2 silkies had veins!
Don't handle your silkie eggs too much by candling...day 7, 14 and 18...handling too much kills off hatches...
I have had trouble hatching Silkies so I didn't candle except twice, day 7 and day 16. Keep that bator closed!
I have 2 silkies playing musical chairs with one lone silkie egg. Its halfway through at day 11 today. I had a broody who lost the egg, it rolled away from her. A second silkie jumped on it. So the second one was committed for a few days....just long enough for the original broody to snap out of being broody And now it seems that I am the only one committed to this egg. I find it alone in the middle of the floor and stuff it under whoever is laying to keep it warm. I know it was developing fine....but now i dont know what is going to happen. If it actually hatches, i am going to have to come up with a name that will reflect how bad the odds were against this poor thing making it (open to suggestions) In reading this post, i hope it does not mess it up because i have to move it so much to keep it under a silkie. Plus the times it gets neglected I dont think it has much chance....but i am going to keep trying til the end
Name it Oliver, like Oliver Twist
Quote:I dont know oliver twist why him?
Quote:well i have to hand turn them 3 times a day
Hand turning them is fine ...it's the extra candling along with that, that will ruin hatches....when I turn my eggs on day 7, 14, and 18...I make sure its the same time that I've to turn the eggs....
whats the big deal? the temp goes right back within like 5 minuttes...
