EEEK! CHICKENS! I'm so excited; they should be hatching today and get here this week!
I've been great entertainment for my husband as I very much resemble the jumping smiley.
I've had some experience with full grown chickens on my grandparents' farm, but this will be my first go at my own chicks from scratch, as it were.
I have a card board box with shredded paper towels (shifting to pine shavings after 2 weeks), waterer, feeder (medicated feed), getting a heat source today. When they get a little bigger they'll be moved to our large dog crate, lining with cardboard for draft walls. We'll be building the coop/run over the next 2 months. I plan to make it twice as big as we think it should be
Using sand as flooring.
Do y'all have any other last minute tips for a newbie?
In anticipation of their arrival, I will be doing this all day --->
