VERY NEW to CHICKENS from Cecil County Maryland

    (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? YES and we do not have any yet

    (2) How many chickens do you have right now? None how manyb should we get? help!

    (3) What breeds do you have? which ones should we get?

    (5) What are some of your other hobbies? We are motorcycle enthusiasts Harley Riders

    (6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. We have 2 gorgeous children one in college and one in 5th grade. Been married 20 years. Have a 3 yr old boxer and a 9 year old lab. We have over 1/2 acre of land and a house we own (OWN) and I have wanted chickens for many years and now we can! I want to make sure we know everything before we get them. i am si excited!

    Hello and welcome to BYC [​IMG] How many chickens to get and what breeds will depend on how much space you have, what you want them for (eggs, eggs and meat, lawn ornaments) etc. But I must warn you: we all start out with a plan, like me for example. I was going to get 5 hens. Only 5. At the moment I have 13 hens, 1 rooster and 5 chicks [​IMG] So whatever you do, build a big coop. Be prepared for the inevitable "chicken math" [​IMG] Chickens are lie potato chips...

Before answering the what types and how many questions - what are your purposes for getting chickens? Meat? Eggs? Both? Or just pets? To help you with your choice you might peruse the chart below.
