So my 5 1/2 week old cockerel is trying to mate with a mature hen. Anyone have any input on this?
I would love to see a video - what do the hens think about the little devil?
My, he is a spry little fella!
Is your hen putting up with his antics?
I have an 8 week old White Leghorn roo -- he's learning to crow AND is trying to mate with my 8 week old pullets.
They are having none of that at all!
My mature hens are in their own coop/run so luckily he cannot even TRY it with them. Some of my sassier girls would probably hurt him.
That's a bit young, but I've had some boys start getting into it pretty young before. It's nothing to worry about. I once had a rooster who began crowing and chasing around the little pullets at two weeks old
We've only seen it just after they retire to the coop in the evening. The hen he goes after is game so she's small. She just squats for him!
