    Hello, fellow BYCers! [IMG]

I remember only too well being new to BYC and those times when I just didn't know what to ask so as to get helpful information. And stay out of trouble. [IMG] I had never joined a forum, so I found most things out the hard way.

So, I figured I'd try to help. Hopefully somebody will get some benefit from this. I know a lot of "old-timers" can come up with even more helpful tips, this is based solely upon my own experience.

If you have a question about a specific subject, the search function here is great. Above to the right, just be sure you enter the key word(s) about what you want to find.

Also, above left, in the blue bar is the index- a real wealth of info there, organized by category. All you ever wanted to know and then some! Tons of answers in easy format.

Do you have an emergency? The best thing you can do is give as many details as possible- makes it a lot easier to help you. Be sure to answer as many questions as possible here:

New to the forum? Don't forget to read all the rules- it can save you a lot of heartache later on. Rules are here:
    https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/misc.php?action=rules

And the absolutely best way to figure out BYC? The FAQs, found here:

So new or not, I hope this helps you avoid the weird situations I kept getting into! [IMG]

And above all, be nice! Especially to the Moderators, who work their feathers off for no scratch!

Quote:Good point Debi, because once you hatch them you have to raise them. My first chicks were day-olds from a feed store, I hadn't a clue how to raise them either! It's a wonder they made it. Shoot, it's a wonder I survived it!

And worse yet, computers hadn't been invented at that time....... [IMG]

HHAHAHAHA!!! We went and got 6 hens and a roo - all started. Came home and looked at the them and then each other and said "oh crap, now what?" Ken actually found this site, and the rest is history.

You voluntarily got a roo? [IMG]

I lived in Austin TX and got straight runs- I really lucked out. Two hens.

Here in SC I bought 4 straight runs- and got 4 gorgeous roos. DH was a wee bit skeptical after that.......
