Thank you my biggest question is trying to figure out what the laws/rules are in my neighborhood I don't want to build a coop and get chickens only to find I've broken the law

Are you within the city limits?
Do you live in a HOA?

Hello there and welcome to BYC! [IMG]

The best thing you can do is call your local city hall. They should be able to tell you all you need to know about the laws in your area.

You might also chat with your chicken neighbors in your state thread and maybe someone nearby you knows the laws in your area...https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/29002/alabama

And should you need to change any laws, stop by this area of your forums on how to change the laws as well....https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/37/local-chicken-laws-ordinances-and-how-to-change-them

Definitely stop by our learning center too for lots of helpful hints and tips on getting started with chickens.

Great to have you aboard and welcome to our flock!

Time for a quick call to city hall, then - they can give you direct information based on the current ordinances that might apply.
