Hello everyone. I'm new to BYC and this is my first post. I live in Kawaihae, Hawaii and am going to start a small flock of chickens.

Our daily temperature this time of year is 85 degrees. Night time is 70 degrees. If I purchase 3-4 week old Australorp or Orpington chicks will I even need a heat lamp for them?

Thanks!

Nope. By this age with such heat they definitely do not need the heat lamp.

Very envious of your temperatures! Not at all warm here at the moment, 10 degrees Celsius! Not good for chicks or me!

Thanks for your replies! We are going to look at some coops this weekend vs. building our own. Also spoke to a feed store yesterday. She gets in day old/week old chicks, so that changes my question a bit...I'm thinking a heat lamp may be in our future.
