    Hi all,

I noticed one of ours hens not moving a lot today and picked her up to find her belly swollen immensely and rock hard.

She clearly was not feeling well.

I put her in an Epson soak for about 20 minutes and then in the dark. There was no sign of an egg in her vent and you could not feel any form of an eggs when massaging the area gently.

So we decided to put her out of her misery and just finished cleaning up.

Before disposing of her body (not thinking we wanted to consume her due to potential infection) we took a look inside to see if we could identify root cause.

I have pictures of her disected abdomen but am not sure if I can post it here.

I would like feedback on what this was so if it's something we can avoid we can spare another hen the same fate.

Is it OK for me to post it?

It is OK to post... maybe a warning of graphic content.

But that seems clear in your header.

Good point, I'll update it to make it very clear.

Hmm. Actually, it looks like I can't edit the header from here. At least from mobile version. I'll look at desktop version and if I can update it there I will, else will just post.

If you get on desktop you can post pics in a spoiler... nobody can see them unless they click the plus sign...
