Feeling sad....My chicken had poop drying on her back end the past few weeks, it would get hard and I would have to cut it off.. ( She was about 3 yrs old.... also did not show signs posted before here about chickens egg bound with posture etc.. just the back end poopie butt and getting slower moving around.)
I tried to bathe her twice in warm epson salts yesterday ... but it was too late She died during the night. Her back end was round and hard. So later today about 15 hrs after she passed..., I opened her back end and it was packed with what looked like cooked yellow egg yolks... Can anyone tell me what was wrong.. .. could her body have absorbed the shell and white and heat cooked the yolk or yolks? Was she egg bound or something else?

I'm sorry about your hen:(

Did you happen to take any photos of what you saw? If not, that's ok.
From your description, I would take a guess that the cooked yellow egg yolks you found in the abdomen may have been Salpingitis(?) Internal laying or Peritonitis are a couple of other possibilities.

There are necropsy photos in this thread, just to let you know...this is most likely Salpingitis.

There's more photos in this thread - you may find something similar to what you saw here.
