~ Watching Your Chickens Is So Pleasant! ~

I agree. After work I go out back with a little treat for the girls. They are so happy and loving. I just sit and watch them do their chicken nonsense for 10 minutes or so and I feel relaxed and ready for the rest of the day.

Oh, I so totally agree.

Here are 3 of my "Middles" - the batch that's about 16, 17 weeks old. Shirley the Welsummer, Rhoda the RIR, and Betsy the BR.

And here's the fourth Middle, Ellen - she's a bantam Cochin:

This is all four of them at once, pleased as punch to be "free ranging" on the yard furniture.

I love sitting out there and listening to them discourse about their experiences.

I am so glad not the be the only one who's chickens use the lawn chairs and such as perches! We have an old wood bench in the back my girls LOVE along with a cushy chair both my neice and my dog use. Well the chickens decided to make that THEIR perch as well, and it is so funny to come out and see them sitting in that chair. Cracks me up every time!

I let my girls out early in the morning, then feed again in early afternoon. If I'm taking too long, my SS girls will come up the steps onto my 2nd story porch and wait for me. When they see me coming out the door, most of them come running from wherever they are in the yard to 'escort' me to the coop. I practically step on them because they get so underfoot. I really enjoy just sitting out on my porch, early in the morning, and watching them free range around the yard. It's so pastoral and relaxing. I feel sorry for the people who don't know what it's like to live this lifestyle. I feel very lucky.

I so agree with you all. I feel so fortunate to live a couple of miles off of the beaten path so that I can enjoy the "country life." To me there is nothing better than spending an hour or so in my chair in our near the pen, just watching and enjoying their antics. The sound of the cluck, cluck and the determined way they peck away at the yard is like a balm after a busy day.
