Water ballon egg

I went to pick up an egg this morning and it was soft like a water ballon. Has this ever happened to you?

Yes - it is a shell-less egg! Mine have laid one or two. How old are your girls? Mine laid them when they just started laying. Have not had any since. If you get more than a few you should give them oyster shells to help with their protein.

I was thinking it was shelless but it did have the same color as usual. She has only been laying for about a month. I haven't been feeding them much laying pellets lately because they are free ranging but i think I will start giving them more.

I would not be too concerned unless it keeps happening. What do you feed them? I would still provide the layer feed even if they free range just so they get the nutrients they need.
