I have 1 White Orpington roo with 2 WO hens in one pen. In the other I have 1 New Hampshire Red roo with 2 NHR hens. It has been very hot here as of late. I have noticed an interesting occurrence. The NHRs are drinking 2x as much water in a day than the WOs. I would have thought it would have been the opposite.

Just something that made me go hmmmm.

Orpingtons are not as big of birds, they just have fluffy loose feathers as the New Hampshires, the latter were actually used as meat birds before all the breeding of meat birds that we are now accustomed to. My New Hamps and my Australorps are heavier birds so they eat and drink more.
