Hi I have to administer Terra-vet 10 into water for my chickens in their five gallon water tub and I've seen sooo many different tablespoon measurements given for the correct dosage. Ot says on the package to give 400-800 mg of the powder for every gallon of water but I don't have a scale that would measure milligrams and was wondering if anyone is familiar with using this Terra-vet medicine and/ or knows how many teaspoons per gallon of water that might be. Thanks!

    Welcome to BYC!

The 800 mg dose for one gallon = 1.5 tablespoons per gallon.

Tetracycline Powder 5.5% (55mg per gram)

    Product looks like this:

Package weighs 181 grams and has 10 grams tetracycline.
    10 ÷ 181 = 0.055, which means it's 5.5% tetracycline, 94.5% filler
    One gram = 55mg
One tablespoon weighs about 10 grams which = 550 mg
    800 ÷ 550 = 1.45 tablespoons
The 800 mg dose for one gallon = 1.5 tablespoons (825mg is close enough)

Thanks for the dosage info....came back from out of town to find one of my girls wheezing...as she was the weakest of the gang from the start, pasty butt, slow on feathering etc..smaller for age of her partner breed...thanks to the hubby for his forgetting to close up coop in windy cold weather rain etc....i think the temp drop brought it on...but treating whole flock...i think im going to personally give her a little more attention and dose her with syringe to start her up...thinking about separation from the other girls but dont want to stress her out with out having company...so if she continues to get worse...intensive care unit for her and some extra hydration and make sure shes eating well....but the dosage for the gang....wow thanks for taking the math away from me!!

im going to give her a slightly higher concentration for a boost start...much like they do me when they throw me on antibiotics....take 2 first day then daily....hopefully she will come out of it!!
