Hello Fellow Waterfowl-Lovers! Can you give your expert advice if the duck below is a Mandarin Hen or a Wood duck Hen?

How do you determine the difference between a Mandie Hen and a Woodie Hen? What are the tell-tale signs? Opinions and advice are greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

This is the hen in question (She has a darker bill and darker feet compared to the usual Mandie Hen).

She also has a much thicker white eye line than the Mandie on he left.

Any thoughts, opinions, suggestions, and advice are much welcome!

    Cheers!

Heh, sorry, I'm no help here, just also keen to learn. They're beautiful birds, I'm increasingly tempted to obtain some in future.

That is a mandarin hen. I will try finding a comparison picture and post it shortly.

The mandarin hens have a white stripe behind her eye, whereas the wood duck hen just has a very thick white circle around the eye. Surprisingly, it is very easy to tell the difference. Also, look at the third picture at this link:http://www.hilltopfarmsny.com/hilltopfarms-gallery.html because it shows a wing difference as well. The wood duck hens just seem to have a bit more irridescence in their wing region. Lastly, they do make different sounds.
